Incredible Ipoh

On the 22nd of July , we travelled to Ipoh which is in the province of Perak in Malaysia. We hired a car and drove there from Kuala Lumpur. It is about a two hour drive , but it took us longer because we wanted to stop and see the Leaning Tower of Malaysia so we made a little detour.

Seeing the Leaning Tower (Teluk Intan) was such a unique

experience and we climbed to the very top in the midday heat (not advisable).

After finishing at the Leaning Tower, we made our way to our hotel (M Boutique Hotel) and by this time we were pretty hungry so we had lunch at White Coffee ( A popular franchise in Malaysia). Our hotel was so unique with it's decor, there is so much attention to detail and such a different atmosphere, as well as the friendly staff.

After lunch we checked into the hotel and had a shower and changed before heading out to do some exploring.

We first made our way to the Sam Poh Tong Temple. It is a Chinese Buddhist temple that's built within a limestone cave, it is the oldest temple in Ipoh.

We then went to the Kek Look Tong Cave Temple and Zen Gardens. After lots (and lots) of stairs , we made it inside! There is something so different and unique about standing in a cave and having stalagtites above you and beautiful gardens outside. I felt so at peace in that moment.

After this , we just drove around , not really having any idea where we wanted to go and found the Birch Clock Tower which was beautiful and there was a couple having wedding pictures taken... Let's just say we gate crashed this photoshoot to take some pictures of our own.

After our mini photoshoot, we took to the streets of Ipoh and saw some street art as well as Concubine Lane (there were no concubines).

We then went for dinner at a place called Belfield Road and had dessert at Hello Elvis, ( If you have a sweet tooth , this is the place for you!!!).

The next day we checked out of our hotel and went to see Kellie's Castle - which was heartbreaking and incredible at the same time. Once again the heat hit us , but it was a worthwhile visit. William Kellie never completed the building so it is a ruin.

What a culturally eye opening trip, I recommend anyone going to Ipoh who wants to experience a different culture and broaden their mind to see all the beauty that Malaysia has to offer (besides Kuala Lumpur).
